Comment:

I downloaded a computer game & once my computer restarted, it stayed on the Windows Me screen & just stays there. I pressed Esc & it gives me the following error message: Windows cannot update file 1% to file 2%, 1%:2%

I've googled this message & have found some tips, but they all require a start up disk. Unfortunately, since I'm not very computer savvy in those terms, I do not have a start up disk.

What other options, if any, do I have? Or is there any way to obtain a start up disk?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

ConfusedOne

Bootdisk.com (among others) - download the appropriate file and run it in order to create the actual diskette.

You may need to adjust your BIOS so that the floppy drive is the first boot device

Ok, I got the start up disk. Thanks.
However, I am still having a problem. I can't access the command prompt. If I leave in the floppy, it says to remove disks or devices & then press any key to restart. It will not restart unless I remove the floppy. Then I get the same error message as before.

I think I need to take it slowly, step by step. So how do I access the command prompt? Then, where do I go from there?

The installed 0/S: Win 98/Win 2000, yet I have the Windows Millenium screen. The CPU speed I wrote down is 900MHz/100MHz, Cache RAM 128KB

Thanks.

Did you run the downloaded file from a Windows desktop in order to create the actual boot diskette?

If so, and you are getting the "non system disk or disk error" message, then try making another boot disk using a different diskette

I got the boot diskette from the website you gave me. I downloaded 3 versions on 3 diskettes. The diskette I've been using does not give me that error. I put in the diskette & then turn on the comp. I've tried rebooting it first, but nothing changes, all it give me is "Remove disks or devices" and below that "Press any key to restart". It does not state it is an error at all.

No, I did not run the downloaded file. I use school computers so I don't know if I'll be able to, but I can try. So I should run the downloaded file & then recreate the boot disk?

Thanks.

"No, I did not run the downloaded file"

Then you don't have a bootdisk - that file is not bootable.

good grief - instructions aren't much good if you won't follow them

It's not that I won't follow them, it's that I don't know if the computer system at school will allow me to. I will have to try at some other time, but thanks for your input. Once I get on it, I'll post more.
