I've looked everywhere via Google and ME Error Message sites (most involved "Mprexe has caused an invalid page fault", however) and have yet to find a remedy for this nagging problem...

Not sure if this is related but I'll add it in anyway. On Sunday we had a brownout in our neighborhood for about 5 hours. Everything went out, TV, Frig, AC...etc. Up until this point I was not having any problems with my home computer.

OK, so last night I go to turn it on and within moments an error message (Mprexe is its title) appeared, and everytime I clicked to 'close' it (the X, right click, etc.) my computer would hang and I would have to do a hard (manual) shut down and restart...

The error message:
Mprexe has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL.
Mprexe will now close.
If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.

I tried the 'rename password file' as someone on a Win ME board suggested, but that didn't work.
I'm at wit's end...
Can anyone who has successfully remedied this problem give me enlightenment, other than to 'search for it on Google'?

Well, you haven't said exactly what you've done to try and remedy this problem, so it's difficult to make suggestions accordingly.

I haven't done anything because I don't know where to start.

Check that...I did several virus scans using Adaware, and a few critters showed up and I took care of them, but even after that, I still get this message when the system boots up.
