When I load the computer it comes up with the error "Error loading Explorer.exe. You Must Reinstall Windows"
I have tried several things.
1. Extracting and replacing msvcrt.exe and explorer.exe
2. Changing shell=explorer.exe to progman.exe to load system Restore
3. scanreg /fix and /restore
4. scandiskI have searched google, microsoft and this site as well for an answer and the only conclusion I can find is to reinstall Windows ME. Any other suggestions before I wipe the drive? Thanks!
Chris

hello
you could try reinstalling windows ontop of its self with no data loss(if all gose well)
goto c:windows\options\cabs\setup.exe
dubble click setup.exe
this should fix your problem.

I did end up reinstalling Windows ME on top of itself and had a problem where the install crashed at 65%. Looked up the problem and was told to delete wmploc.dll and wmploc.oox and did so. After that WinME install completed all the way through and was able to save the data. The problem was that the persons computer I was working on, they deleted cmdninst. Reinstall worked and all is fine :)
Chris

Use a disk doctor on the WInME disk. Besides that, use a friends copy or a backup of the original (You did make a backup of WinME right?) Odds are you are having a driver problem but besides that, I can't help much.

I am having the same problem today. I tried restarting my computer and it won't go to the desktop. I get the error message and when I click ok my computer shuts down. How can I safely reinstall Windows ME on my PC without destroying data and being that I can't get to the desktop? I have a Gateway desktop that came pre-installed with Windows ME from the manufacturer. Help!

hey Chris, how did you do the following?
"Looked up the problem and was told to delete wmploc.dll and wmploc.oox and did so."
if i cant log into windows, how do i find and delete these files?
