Every time I try to open a folder or when I click on D unit icon I get the following message: "Explorer caused an error in shell32.dll" (sometimes: "Explorer caused an error in kernel32.dll") However, there are a very few folders that I can open. I canīt access to my files or documents!!!

kernel32.dll is one of the core windows system files.. it's the big one. You're gonna have to reinstall windows

I have an error when i try to delete my recycle bin it's appears like "Explorer caused an error in Shell32.DLL" i tried to copy again those files but it's the same thing... I don't know what i have to do, i need help!
Thanks

Need your help. I have been experiencing
problems with Internet Explorer 6.0 lately.
It doesn't allow me to preview my files
and just hangs. My only solution is to
repeatedly restart the computer. I decided
to uninstall Internet Explorer and plan to
re-installing it, hoping that may solve the
problem. That was when my problem
began. Soon after uninstalling Internet
Explorer and restarting my computer the
following error message was displayed:"Explorer - Explorer has caused an error
in SHELL32.DLL. Explorer will now close.
If you continue to experience this
problem, try restarting your computer."When I select "close" to close the error
message, a blue screen is displayed.
After restarting my computer it just
repeatedly goes thru the vicious cycle. Any
assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Alfredo

Im having the exact same issue as you are, it even started with the IE 6.0 issue and deciding to use the restore to previous configuration option in add/remove programs...im getting the shell32 everytime i boot up the system and cant get on the desktop at all (getting wallpaper but no icons or program listing in task manager) i tried using a boot disk and replacing shell32 via floppies and failed miserably to fix this.ill post here if i come up with anything that works, but its beginning to look like we'll both be reisntalling our operating systems.
the moral of this story is IE6.0=bad

I'm having the exact same problem. IE6 was not working well, so I tried to restore previous version. Big mistake. I've tried reinstalling windows again from command prompt, and got the same error. I tried to run system restore from a command prompt (from microsoft knowledge base web site) and that gave me a different error. I think I'm screwed.

I have the same problem!!!! IE6 SUCKS!!!!!
After installing IE6, my windows explorer was acting funny. So I decided to uninstall IE6 in a hope to turn back my WINDOWS explorer. NOW I HAVE "Error shell32.dll" Please someone contact the Microsoft about this problem since there are serveral of us with the same problem. Also if someone finds some solution, please E-mail me!!!
PS. I am thinking about reinstallig or hard drive recovery CD that came with my comp. Any suggestions/ comments?

This is the only place that I've found for this particular problem so far.
I've tried system restore, safe mode, scan disk, WIN ME startup disk, registry fix. None of them work. Has anyone found a solution for this annoying problem besides reinstalling the the whole OS? If not, can someone please tell how to reinstall the operating system from a preinstalled pc CD without losing the gigs of files saved on the hard drive? I've posted this problem in Microsoft's Products support. I haven't heard anything yet. Please e-mail when anyone finds anything.
Thank you

hey I was thinking... what if someone create a CD that will autorun/ boot from CD during startup that has IE6 in it. Basically since we can't access the windows, we create a CD that will Boot up and Reinstall the IE6. Maybe that is our only solution.
But this is all just theory. I don't even know how to create a boot disk, Let alone that will install IE6. If anyone can, could you try this theory? If no one else would I can ask around and do it myself.

i do know that in win98, one could install single files such as kernell32.dll without having to reinstall win entirely
go to systeminfo->extra and then one of the extra features allows you to install single files from the windows installation disk. i dont quite remember which extra feature you should choose. but try them all and you will know.
in win xp however i dont know how to do this
lots of luck

I had the same problem as was posted.
running Windows ME
uninstalled IE 6 because I was having all kinds of connection problems with my cable modem and got the "error with shell32.dll file" everytime I tried to enter windows. After two days of my friends and I trying to fix it I broke down and gave MS my $35.
here is what they had me do...from the C:\ I entered the progra~1\intern~1\w2k directory and renamed the migrate.dll file to migrate.old
they also had me check and see if I could rename migrat.dll and iemigrat.dll files. However neither of these files were on my computer. (I'm sorry I can't remember which directory they were supposed to be in.)
They then had me reinstall windows me from my dell reinstallation disc. (To do this I went to the E:\ and typed setup)
My computer hung at one of the options of making a copy of the existing ME system files. They just had me start the installation over again and choose to not save the files.
I am back up and running.
So far no errors. Can anyone for see a problem that I may have by installing ME over itself? I somehow have retained all of my original settings before the problem started.
Also I'm not sure if I want to install IE 6 again.
Any comments that you have would be helpful.
Microsoft also said that they would help me with the laggy performance of IE 6 and I didn't have to pay anymore for it.
I got the contact information from the microsoft trouble shooting site.
good luck.
