My Epson printer properties say that there is a connection error and suggest that I check my cable. The cable connections have been checked and appear to be ok. The system information reports that the printer is ok and no conflicts with the port (LPT 1). Have rebooted the system and ran system restore in attempt to correct with no results. My only option appears to be to uninstall the printer and re-install with hopes of correcting the problem. The cable should be ok as it is only 6 mo old. Have used this printer with no problems until today and appears to have developed this problem out of the blue. My sys is a Gateway Select 1100. OEM WinME, 384MB pc133 SDRAM, 1100 MHz AMD Athlon, Epson Stylus Color 740 printer printing to LPT 1.Thanx for any suggestions.

if you have go back use that to restore to when it was working or if not using go-back use system restore and restore it to when it was working. start-programs-accessories-system tools-system restore. if your printer still doesn't respond after restoring it to when it was ,try replacing the cable. if this doesn't work you can return the cable for a refund at most stores. when opening the package ,slice the plastic at the top just enough to get the cable out, this way when returning they can put it back on display and will give you less hassles. (and try removing printer in device manager and refresh, also try reinstalling software/drivers from epson.) also try disconnecting reconnecting printer cable while powered off.
