check to see if your dvd drive is bad. Go to the Device Manager and see if there is a exclamation mark or any signs of problems. You might need an updated driver or reinstall if it's damaged. It could also be the drive itself. Does it also read CDs? If it does, try to see if it could read a cd.

Kevin.

Go to device manager and delete the entry for your dvd
drive. Refresh and reboot. Let plug 'n pray detect the
drive and reload the driver if any. Also, in the drive's
properties, make sure that DMA is enabled once
everything is up to par.

While searching for your
specific model of dvd drive on google, it seems a lot of
people with the same drive are having problems with it.
If it plays CD-Rs fine but won't play DVD's, it looks like
it's time to replace.

hello
if warenty is gone you might try cleaning the lasser lens in the dvd player. not just one of those cleaning kits.you will need to remove drive from computer and open it "voiding any warenty" and with quetips and alchahol veary veary veary gently clean the lassers lens. reasemble and try
if you jar it out of alinment its mostly toast!.
try all the above help first befor manually cleaning the lens.!!!!!!!!!!

I seem to be having the same problem. My computer is only 3 months old and I could play DVD's easily using wmp or winDVD. Yesterday I downloaded wmp9 and now DVD's wont play properly. wmp says something about the copyright or that it has encountered an error. WinDVD will only play the sound. Though they both play CD and VCD fine. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Andy
