After installing Windows ME, my DVD play will not play movies. It has a jerking
motion in the video and poor sound. After
this, it stops. Anybody have the similar
problem or know the answer?

Did you maid a re-installation of windows?
maybe your DVD needs a proper installation of its driver after you installed windows me.
Take a look inside Device Manager and see if your DVD has a yellow mark on it, and do DVD driver installation if it has.Goodluck!

Thanks,The DVD was already installed on the
computer, no software. No, I did not reinstall windows. The only thing that works so far is that I downloaded a trial version of POWER DVD and the movie played on the DVD.
Windows DVD PLAYER nor Compaq's DVD PLAYER
does not work. Compaq does not support the new operating system (ME) because I installed it. In the device manager, the DVD player shows up only as a Standard CD/ROM. There is no yellow mark beside the Dvd/CD/ROM
Player. There are no drivers (that I can find for this unit. I think that it needs a decoder and with POWER DVD it has its own
decoder. Thanks for the help. I would like to get my Windows DVD program to play DVD. If you have anymore ideas, let me know.

You probably need to go to the DVD OEM site and download new software/driver for WinME. Or you can go to the control panel and manually load your own driver - using the show all hardware tab. Sometimes the default drivers in ME or XP do not do the complete job. You can at least see what driver is loaded and the date. (It appears that the DVD is not plug and play - or at least does not have the proper .inf in your system) - it should have shown up as other than a normal CDRom.

question 1 response the reason your comp wont play dvd is because your hardrive isnt big enough or is the sound card, not big enough, thats why you are getting poor sound take out windows me and install windows 98 and then play dvd player and it will play wonderful..to much space taken on hardrive to play cd or dvd or game card isnt big enough just take [me] out and put [98] in it will solve your problem...
