I been running McAfee Viruscan Online for quite awhile. It finally bogged down my computer so badly I had to dump it and what a process that is getting rid of it! You have to download a removal tool to complete clear it out. So far AVG Free edition is working fine as far as I know. You just have to remember to update it from time to time. My computer is running a lot faster now since McAfee is gone.

I haven't had a problem with AVG in 6 months.

What do you mean you had to download a removal tool for CrapAfee? I did the same 2 weeks ago and installed Avast and I did not need a removal tool. I just used the add/remove programs box. I also run Win ME.

Sometimes McAfee leaves the services after an uninstall (as well as services) but that is on XP/2K, not sure if it does on 9x. This was also the McAfee EPO corp version.
In ME in order to remove McAfee VirusScan Online 10 you must use their removal program to get clean your registry of all traces of the program. Simply un-installing it does not do this.

If you setup the scheduler on AVG the update process is automatic , just set it for a time when you know it will be on the network and it will download the latest bin file , no manual work involved...
