DSL hook-up suggestions

I am about to purchase a DSL and drop my old 56K modem. The DSL providers offer two options for connection, a USB port or the back of the computer. Do I need to add an Ethernet card if I want a connection other than the USB port? Also, my understanting is that the USB connection is not as good, is this accurate?

Its actually fact that usb utilizes more cpu resources , that its slower than ethernet and it has to share resources/bandwidth with your other usb stuff. Ethernet is dedicated bandwidth just for your cable, and it uses less cpu.

Get the built in ethernet card , they are all of $15-20 nowadays . Also if you plan on running any more than 1 computer invest in a inexpensive wireless router . This would give you the option to go wireless in the future and supports 4 wired ethernet connections to go along with it.

Thanks for the feedback and opinions. I plan to pick-up an Ethernet card to install prior to the DSL hook-up.
