When looking in device manager, where it shows "Update Driver", do I have to be online to click on that button to update the driver for the device?

No- you can direct it to the drive, directory where the updated driver is. I believe while online it searches Microsofts driver database for newer drivers but I could be mistaken.

First. Do you really need to update your drivers? If all works OK let sleeping dogs lie. Most of the problems that I have incurred in the past were a result of my apparent "need for speed" so I upgraded whether I needed it or not and often suffered the consequences and conflicts. Make sure you really need it first. If it ain't broken, don't fix it!
