Ibm type X86-based pc;Windows ME;CD-ROM not working. In device manager a ! on secondary IDE controller. 2-drivers listed. 1 I cannot find in system. The other reads : ESDI:trap handler not called:sector mismatch:cylinder mismatch head mismatch: data mismatch: acces to drive failed (IRQ?)so punting... my question is what does this mean? Also, the driver that windows says is installed is not the one listed in the device manager. the driver that windows says is running lists countless bad primary IDE and bad secondary IDE refrences. Can this be fixed? Thanks for any advice.

hello you might try going into safe mode and remove all referances to these drives and drivers from device manager. and reboot this will make windoz reinstall the drivers.and devices there for. should fix the problem.

Thanks Dave. I understand what you're saying, but I'm afraid that I'm not proficient enough for that. What would happen if I disabled the secondary Ide in device manager? This is a hand-me down computer;has lots of musical programs(?)that I won't use. Perhap
