Just what is this Winimage self extracter?
I know that I didn't download it. It could be possible that my grandchild did it while I was out today. It is also listed as wextract, exe.I did a search on it and I could only find 2 articles about it. It is in my Windows temp folder and in my desktop download folder. Is this a good program or possibly a trojan? I had Norton scan it, but it didn't find anything.

XCLN: IExpress Does Not Make Self-extracting Files
Applies To
This article was previously published under Q189800
SYMPTOMS
When using Microsoft Internet Express to make a self-extracting file, you may get the following error:Unable to find C:\Program Files\ODK\Tools\wextract.exe. Please make sure
it is in the path or in the same folder as IExpress.exe.
CAUSE
The Wextract.exe file is either missing or is in the wrong folder.
RESOLUTION
Locate the Wextract.exe file and put it in the following folder:
C:\Program Files\ODK\ToolsSTATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit that ships with the Microsoft Outlook Deployment Kit.
MORE INFORMATION
The Wextract.exe is needed by IExpress.exe to make the cab file self- extracting. If it is not in the C:\Program Files\ODK\tools folder with Express.exe, the cab files will still be created, but the error message will appear at the end of the build process.Locate the Wextract.exe file in the following folder:
C:\Program Files\ODK\olbin\en\optionalWhen the Wextract.exe file has been located, copy it to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\ODK\ToolsThis will ensure that it is included in the cab files and Internet Express will build the self extracting files without error.

All Winimage programs are safe to use and have more or less become a standard in computing. One example is making an image of your boot disks or any diskette for archival puposes. These images can be converted to self extracting programs used to generate a boot disk (or a regular program on diskette) when you need it.These images will always be ready to be used when you need them to create a fresh diskette as opposed to a diskette that can become unreliable after a storage period. You can store the images on your hard drive or on a CDR disk with other programs. If you want to see some of these programs and try using them as boot disks applications you can use visit:

hello
if this is just a regualer win image self extracting file and not the program its self
it could be any thing and people hide viruses and trojins in them and most are just inocent files that have been zipped to save space d/ling or emailing. scan your computer for viruses.

I can't find anything on my computer that is listed as IExpress.exe. These are what is downloaded to my desktop temp folder. Is one of these the IExpress.exe?
Win32 Cabinet Self-Extractor WEXTRACT.exe Wextract
WinImage Self Extractor file 622-514 winimage
WIMA_SFX.EXEThis program just might come in handy. Is there a site that will explain more about this program? Are all the files I need here?
I have already visited http://www.bootdisk.com and downloaded some boot disks and they worked fine to restart my windows 95 computer.

1. Q189800 has nothing to do with your question.
2. If no virus or trojan as Dave suggested, then it's just a download of WinImage and can be used as Petit Jean suggested.
3. Believe it has a trial usage period of 30 days.
4. Ask your grandchild if he/she would like to use the computer in the "standing up" mode.Skip

I used to take the coil wire out of my car so my daughter could not drive it without permission. Maybe you could remove the power cord so nobody can use the computer without permission.
