I have been trying to download HijackThis hoping it would help me get rid of a highjack program called BookedSpace that I have found in my registry.
Everytime I try to download HijackThis, it comes up with a .zip...as compared to .exe file which automatically opens during downloads of other programs[Ad-ware]. A window comes up with options of which program i would like to use to open the hijackthis .zip file. Non of the given programs to choose from is able to open this file. I thus have not been able to down load Hijackthis. What should I do to open this .zip file so that I can download hijackthis. Is there any other way I can remove BookedSpace. Ad-ware 6 and Spybot are able to remove it but it still comes back. I have also tried to manually remove it from the registry using F3 search function but to my disappointment, it still re-loads itself. Help me please. I need my Safe Surfing of the net back.
Thanks.
Spoon.

No need to download any other program to open .zip files. Windows ME can do this (if enabled)....
start - settings - control panel - add/remove programs - windows setup - scroll down and highlight system tools - details - put a check in the box next to compressed folders - click OK etc to close the windows. A box opens and a progress bar quickly completes. I'm not sure if you have to re-start the PC. You will now be able to open compressed folders (.zip), create compressed folders (by right clicking)and also password protect (encrypt) these compressed folders. Once you have sorted out your spyware problem, post back in a new thread and I'll tell you how to use these functions.
HijackThis does not delete spyware, it only reveals what is running when you run that program. To delete spyware and other bugs, get the free program SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY from.....

I use it on Win ME.

When you download any file, you should right click the link and select 'save target as'. Download it to an empty folder, then virus check the file before you open it for the first time. Dis-able your AV program when you come to install the program and be sure to re-enable the AV program afterwards.
Some AV progs clash with some program installs.I NEVER run a file from it's location!!!!

Symantec says this bug is installed when you install another program.
If you delete BookedSpace, you may find the program that came with it will no-longer run......
