Delindex 5.0 Bugs Fixed
Download the new Delindex 5.1In Version 5.0, some users reported the loss of icons, icons turning into generic icons, and/or the loss of functionality in MS Office and/or other programs. Another user said "I found that I had lost the entire library in WMP and had to get the program to search for all the media files again." All references that caused these problems have been removed.
Two users reported a problem with System Restore not working. (Not that that's not common.) The line deltree /y C:\_restore\temp\ was removed as a precaution.
After Delindex 5.0 was finished, new versions of Spybot S&D and ETrust EZ AV were released. As a result, the Spybot reference was changed, and the ETrust EZ AV code was eliminated, as it was no longer needed.
Thanks to Frenchie (aka Gérard Melone) for finding a misspelling and an incorrect choice option, which have been corrected.
The notes on "How to Save Special Cookies" were slightly rearranged for added clarity.
Thanks to all who promptly reported problems, with special thanks to Iain from Belgium, via Annoyances.org, for his help in diagnosing the 5.0 problems.

Iam curious on uninstalling the previous version of DELINDEX, do you simply right click on the icon in Explorer and chose delete ? I downloaded version 5.0 ,B/4 these revalations about some probs and have not used any version on DELINDEX yet! I have a app called Index.dat file veiwer. It allows you to only veiw whats listed in the index.dat folder. To my surprise ,it wasnt that large and oddly enough ,most of the items listed where related to post in the computing.net forum ? I never visit porn sites, so there is none of that in the folder. However for the sake of H.D. space I would like to clean it out. Iam not going to run DELINDEX 5.0 , I rather uninstall it and download 5.1 , again please advise on proper method on uninstalling 5.0,B/4 downloading 5.1 !
Thanks ,Nick

You can download DELINDEX 5.1 over 5.0 (or over 4.2 for that matter).
You can select DELINDEX and press the Delete button to send it to the recycle bin.
Or you can select DELINDEX and press Shift/Delete to delete it immediately.
I started out with index.dat files no bigger than 32K. I've been on the Net for a few hours. Index.dat sizes:
Cookies 49,152
History IE5: 81,920
History/History IE5 81,920
Temporary Internet Files: 262,144And they will get bigger.

Hi Renaissance Man, Nick Ritchie, hi everybody,Thank you for your very, very good work! ;-) Thank you for this new 5.1 version!
Have a good day,
Gérard from Paris, France

I went ahead and installed ver5.1 over 5.0 and opened the app up and its now reported as ver5.1 ! I still have yet to run DELINDEX ,however I have read all the notes and have a couple of concerns B/4 I run DELINDEX ! On my P3 750MHZ 256M.B.SDRAM O/S WinMe , I have the ATI TV Wonder USB Edition ,and it comes with the Gemstar Guide Plus system ,for downloading weekly TV listings. I noticed that DELINDEX deletes .db files . In C:\Program Files\Gemstar\GUIDE PLUS+{TM}there is a folder .db with 50 files all .db, 42.6M.B.'s , will DELINDEX delete all of these .db files ? Also on the Downloaded Program Files I have 6 items listed all ActiveX controls ,for Shockwave player, Flash player, Windows Update etc, I noticed in the notes that this folder is cleaned out except for the Windows Update ActiveX Control. Are these plugins placed back in tthat folde when you reboot Windows ? When you have time please advise. I like the idea of cleaning out the index.dat file ,however B/4 I run delindex ,I would like to know about these areas of concern .Thanks in advance !
Sincerely Nick

Delindex only deletes THUMBS.db.
I have Direct X 9.0b and Shockwave 8.5.1.102 and Delindex does not cause any problems with either on my system.

Thanks RM, not only are you very good at what you do,you respond quickly when coming to the aid of others here at computing.net ! Its appreciated very much. :-)
Thanks Nick

I ran DELINDEX 5.1 for the frist time yesterday ! I made the super fast start floppy disk for WindowsMe ! It ran very quickly and when it was finished it reported the amount of free space B/4 and after DELINDEX, it came out to around 18M.B. of space freed up ! I have Norton Utilities and I ran system check after DELINDEX and it reported 10 problems in 3 areas ,Area #1 "invalid activex/COM" Refering to missing file isetup.DLL Area #2 Invalid help files ,all related to the deleted cnt files. Area #3 Missing Microsoft Shared (4 probs) .DLL errorr's ? I let Norton repair all ,and it deleted the invalid registry entries ! I have I.E. 5.5 SP2 DirectX 9.0 . I logged onto the internet with no apperant problems and so far all is good .I want to thank R.M. again . I usally go on the internet for 2-3 hours daily , often visiting the same web sites ,I also do some browsing for what ever gadget Iam interested in .Lately I've been looking into buying a PDA ,to replace my organizer ! Thanks again RM ,and if you have any ?'s feel free to ask ! My next ? isc ,how often should I run this wonderful app ?
Take Care Nick

I forgot to mention one other item .In the downloaded programs files, there is a folder named CONFLICT.1 and inside that folder is one file a ActiveData.dll 110 K.B. application extension ? All the the 6 items in that folder B/4 running DELINDEX are now gone ,they where all ActiveX files ! Is this normal ,or should it cause any concern ?
Thanks Again ,Nick
