Is it possible to simply downgrade from WinME to 98Se without completely formatting my PC or changing any contents on my harddrive? Thank you.

I wouldn't want to try it. You can, however, get rid of Me and do a fresh install of 98se without losing data like documents and pictures. You will have to reinstall all drivers and all programs just like you would after a format. Sorry the choices aren't better but were looking at two different versions of DOS and the likelyhood that you just don't have a prayer.Skip

Agreed... even though going from Me to 98se IS an upgrade, you'll have to reinstall Win98 from scratch. You might try something, though: access your hard drive from an 98se setup disk, delete the Windows & Program Files directories, initialize the MBR, and then install Win98. You should at least be able to keep your data files.

Hi Matt, Skip, Tropic, hello everyone,
The question was being asked quite a bit a while back so I decided to give it a shot.
I had many problems throughout dozens of attempts and when I finally got Win98 to boot up it was a terrible install at best.I would personally backup you important files, format and install Win98SE.
Best Regards,
Mesich

Matt,
If you still have the uninstall routine available in add/remove programs for Win ME, then you can go back to 98 fairly easily, but some programs which you installed since you had ME will probably not work. However, if the uninstall files (in other words the old 98) are not there, then the only alternative is to reinstall.

I meant to say also, however, that there is no need to go back to 98. Visit the homepage link on this post and do what it says and then ME will run perfectly for you.

matt, why do you want to do such a thing?
as they said above, yes it can be done with pain, but why?
