DOS-prompt doesn't accept keyboard commands in ME

I've been using ME for a while now and never had probs before...
until recently my DOS-prompt stopped accepting any keyboard commands

I wouldn't want to reinstall the whole system, so has anyone any idea how to fix this problem?
