i cannot get my computer to do anything. i get a dos prompt but cannot change drive or input anything. i tried a boot disk but nothing works. the last time it showed anything on the screen it said "type name of windows loader (e.g., c:\windows\ system\ vmm32.vxd). i did try that and it kept repeating same command.

When you first switch the computer on, press F2 or something similar to enter the bios settings panel.

Search through the options until you find 'boot order' Then change the first boot device to CD.(do not be tempted to 'play' with settings you don't understand as you can make things worse... I learned the hard way!)

Now insert your emergency recovery disk/winME disk into the CD drive, save your settings and exit bios.

The computer will restart and hopefully read your disk and start your recovery program.

Now either refer to the instruction manual that came with the computer or read the howto

i cannot get drive c: to take any command. everything i type in it said thhis file is missing or corrupted then it says to type in the windows loader which it will not take. using f2 as you had me do i finally got to a: drive booting it first with my win emer boot disk. i am trying to format the c: drive. when i use fdisk i get to the part where i type in... cd_c or...format_c and it will not accept this command. also i changed bootlog to have the cd boot first and load my win me disk but it does not work either. any suggestions

I'm running out of usefulness...

Did you delete the partitions before formatting?

How about checking all the connectors.(inside box)

erm... apart from that I have no more ideas I'm afraid.

Anyone else got any other ideas???
