Just downloaded a game which can only run in dos mode.

I was wondering if any one has an easy way to get it working ?

I've used the startup disk to get a basic config - this gives me dos, but no support for my SB1024 sound card and PS2 mouse.

Short of creating a boot disk from the startup disk with the device drivers on the only other way I can see of doing this is to patch ME with the dos patch, but this changes command.com, IO.sys and Regenv32.exe !! Its also only recommended for US versions of ME.

Has anyone tried this? As my system seems fairly stable I dont want to be messing with the system files too much.

Any other ideas to get a quick hassle free solution ?

Cheers - Rob

It wont run under windows at all, Im trying to get hold of some soundblaster live dos drivers, but they dont do them so I'll try the awe64 ones ! I'll also get a dos mouse driver and then edit the ME startup disk to give me a basic config ( win 95,98 and dos system disks dont recognise any of my hard drives) - gives me something to do anyway

Thanks all the same, Rob

You can get a new SBLive sound card for $99
that works greate with WIN ME, even when
running games in DOS mode. I've got some
Labtec Spin 70 speakers ($39) to go with it
and the sound is very good.

I got several old DOS games that I want to play. You will not be able to play DOS games unless you have a DOS partition. These are the reasons:

1) DOS and Win95 partitions are FAT16 instead of the FAT32 found on Win ME, 98, 2000 and NT. In 1997, when installing Win 98, most of my DOS games stopped working.

2) Most DOS games require expanded memory. This is achieved by using EMM386.exe that is a utility that lets you access high memory and also simulate expanded memory.

My DOS games are currently working. First, I created a partition for DOS and installed DOS 6.22. Then, download mouse.exe that program will access your mouse. Get a soundblaster driver DOS emmulator for your card.

Good Luck!
