I see many people on here think the easy way out of ME problems is to discard it and go to XP. It's not that easy. XP is slow and prone to the same problems as any other OS. It is difficult to navigate with information overload at times.
Even if your a beginner you can tweak ME to run like a champion with a few simple steps.

Here is a web site that will help you tweak your ME system:

http://www.techspot.com/guides-os.shtml

scroll down to the ME section and have fun.

Do exactly what it says and if your not sure what your doing, DON'T do it, simple, but most of the tweaks are easy and do work.

Most of the problems people have with ME is due to the programs they have running in the background. Limit these programs as much as possible for a smoother OS.

Good luck.

I've used Win ME since the day it hit the stores. We've had 2 systems in that time and I uninstalled ME from the older system and put 98SE on it so I could use ME on the new one. I've had less trouble and fewer crashes with my ME in all of that time than my b-i-l has had in two weeks with his brand new Win XP system. Not to mention that his new 1+GHz system is twice as slow as my 900MHz system. At this point if we were to buy a new system and couldn't get 98SE or ME on it the first thing I would do is format and install ME.

I'm with you ta21!

I have ME running well on many systems - for years without any crashes or freezes. I won't change it until I'm forced to. I have been sorting out a couple of PCs with XP problems recently and the layout is just so cumbersome it's a pain.

I found that the layout of XP was a pain.. to solve this I found a piece of software called Total Commander, which I now use for absolutely everything to do with XP file management, program managment / launching etc etc. The start menu and windows explorer are now totally redundant for me and I can get on with using the PC with the stability of XP without the damn interface ;) If your sticking with ME just cuz XP is slow to use (due to interface I might add) and looks horrid, give Total Commander a go :)))

Hiya,

I have been running ME for over 3 years now. It is running like a dream - no problems at all after I got rid of NAV2001 - which must have been a beta version and then upgraded to 512MB RAM.

Still, I have been thinking a bout XP. You guys and a flurry of similar posts here lately are telling me I should stay with ME.

Why not ? It runs, its reliable and quick.

If its working, don't try and fix it.

Jeremy

Besides the millions of problems I've had with ME, even after tweaking, now a lot of new programs are coming out that are not supported on ME. Like all the 2004 versions of macromedia software, and plenty of other new programs. I'm thinking of going with NT.
