i installed aol when i bought the computer in october 2001. it worked fine for about a month and then i kept getting dns error messages. i played around and discovered that i could access the web if i went into the internet explorer icon on the tool bar. i dont understand why i can surf the web through that connection and not through aol. i have contacted aol and they have not been able to fix the problem. help!!!!

I used to use AOL. I now use AT&T Worldnet, which is $7 a month cheaper, and I get no busy signal, no disconnects, no problems. BTW,I have no idea what a "dns error message" is.
When I was using AOL I had several problems. Since these solutions are old, the may not apply. But what have you got to loose? After using all these "fixes" my problems mostly went away.
* Look at MS KB article Q272106; if download 2720106usam.exe is still available and applicable, download it.
* Go to the AOL folder\csl and rename aolnetpp.csl aolnetpp.bak. (I got this from a Computing.net post)
* Go Start/Settings/Control Panel/System, and select the device manager tab. Double click on network adapters, and highlight the AOL Dial-Up Adpter and click on Properties. Click once to put a check mark in the box next to "Disable in this [or some same all] hardware profiles." (I got this from AOL.)
Let us know how you make out with your problem/solution.
