Hi there folks, last week my sister (who is completely computer illiterate :) was using the computer and something happened.. Then I couldnt open any pages in IE.. So. I was like.. what the hell? Because my chat programs still worked.. so I used Opera (which still worked) to download the latest version of Netscape. Which also works. But I cannot for the life of me figure out why IE is being such a pain in the ass.

I already read up the post by Newgrl on the first of May, did as instructed, deleted the new.net domains entry in my add/remove files, went ahead and tinkered and manually edited/deleted the keys and branches you asked.. And nothing.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I've even tried to download a new winsock32.dll file to replace my old one but that didnt pan out quite right.. After booting I'd get a message to the effect of "Please check your TCP/IP settings and make sure that port 110 is available" I'm using Windows ME so I reverted to an earlier system restore point to fix the TCP/IP message.. Unfortunately.. The only restore point I have this entire month was taken after the DNS problem. Yeah. Lucky me.

I would really appreciate if someone could give me some imput..

Thanks,

-Horafir

Just a thought, but have you tried "repairing" IE?...Add/Remove,choose to remove IE,and it'll give you the option to repair.Or try uninstalling/reinstalling.Anything past that would be over my head.

I "think" port 110 has something to do with "POP" mail. Also, check into your control panel/network applet to see if the tcp/ip stuff looks right...multiple entries,etc...
I REALLY don't know any detailed instructions or suggestions to help you out.
sry

Call your ISP and see what they have to say

I got things back to how they were.. That is to say the Internet works but IE does not. Heh. I've tried everything I can think of..

*shamelessly bumps the topic as he is in dire need of help*
