Hi chai.
Why would you want to change the resolution. 600X800 would have to be the most servicable resolution as it handles most games and general visual needs.

I have an 19 inch flatscreen digital monitor and when I increase the resolution the actual desktop and the icons got considerably smaller. By the time I increase the desktop area with the monitor settings and the size of the icons so that I can make them out, and increased the text size also to make them readable, I am back to the same as if I were running a 600X800 (but in a defacto form).

I am told that the picture is much sharper, you could have fooled me because I can't tell the difference.

Unless you REALLY have a need for that size let sleeping dogs lay, it's not worth the effort.

But then, I am always open to constructive critisism :)

Regards

In Display properties (settings), make sure you move the slider to the right so that your resolution is what you want it to be, then make sure the colour depth (pallette) is the right setting for you and click apply then ok. It's possible that your graphics card (if quite old) may not support 1024 x 768 in the same colour depth.
When you say the pc resets back to the old resolution, is it straightaway or does it happen after a restart?

Also...click the advanced button and see if
"apply new color setting without restarting" is checked .

Janset....How can you live with 800X600 :)? Im good at 1152X864 with a 19" monitor.

SMUOD.
Talk to me. It sounds like my attempt may have not the way to go about it. Other than an alleged sharper picture what other benefits are there, do I see more of the screen? How do I go about it?
I sent an email to Paul McFedries author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Windows ME and his other book The Unauthorised Version of Windows ME, or something like that and his response was basically confirmed what I said in my bit.
Tell me more... What benefits?
I'm hungry for information and thirst for knowledge....lol.

Hi All
I have the same problem with my computer. I change the resolutions to 800 by 600 and hit apply then the computer reset itself back to 640 by 480. Now the slider won't let me reset it at all. It has done this several times and I don't know how to fix it!!! Would appreciate any help I can get.

Hi, I think I found the answer to our problem! If I leave the color at 24 bits(resolution @800 X 600), my resolution stays the same but if I change the color to 32 bit, then it resets itself
to 640 X 480. It's the video card that needs updating. I'm getting a new one and will let you know if that works for me.

Hi, I need my resolution to be 600x800 to play many games I have already purchased. When I change it to 600x800 the screen becomes much smaller almoser were I cant read anything. I want the resolution to be 600x800 but fill the whole monitor screen.
