Running ME on a new Packard Bell, I was editing some Photos, the creen went multi-coloured and crashed! Now I can only get 16 bit colour. I have tried updating video and monitor drivers, but I seem to have the latest ones. System Restore wouldnt let me go back beyond today. Any ideas please??

choose the new drivers you downloaded
even if windows says you have the newest.
if that doesn't work,
you might have to remove your video card in device manager ,reboot and let windows redetect it.

1. boot into safe mode and run scandisk.

2. Check to see if there are any conflicts, problems with any hardware/drivers in 'system '.

Normally, if something goes wrong then it is the last thing that was installed. If none of the above works then uninstall the last program or driver and restart.

Otherwise it may be quicker to reinstall WIndows ME without reformatting.

Sue,
Right click on your desktop and choose properties to bring up your display options. On the Settings tab, choose advanced, then adapter, and finally Change. Choose Standard Display Adapter/Standard VGA. Apply these settings, but DON'T reboot when asked. Now, go into Add/Remove Programs, and delete your display adapter-related programs. Now it's time to reboot, and have your Display adapter's CD in your drive, as it'll be looking for it when you reboot. If Windows finds newer versions of several files, and asks you if you want to keep them, I usually say "no", as it may be these very files that are giving you grief.
(I suspect it's just corrupted video drivers, and some programs will not overwrite the bad files if they detect a file already installed, so your option is to delete them, then reload.)
