display drivers fail at startup

I have a built pc new and have a hard drive selector in it all 3 hard drives are running win me and have a gforce 4 ti4200 for the video card and my problem is when i shut down the pc for a day then back on the video diplay will revert to 16 color and then i have to go back and image to a early date to get back to normal can any one tell me why this is happening it will happen on any one of the hard drives i select to run.
