please help if you can this is driving me mad! when i have started the computer and windows ME has loaded i get one of two error messages appear. Qttask has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL or RUNDLL, mmsystem.DLL. also the screen colours are all bitty and objects are bigger than normal. i have tried changing the colours but wont work. thank you
That error is related to Quicktime, which never has acted right on my system, so I use Quicktime Alternative instead, which works well. In case you try QTA, download the version for 9x/ME as the latest versions don't run under 9x/ME.
You need to prevent Qttask from loading at startup or uninstall Quicktime entirely, in my opinion. If you uninstall QT, leave Qttask checked on the startup tab of msconfig or it won't remove that entry when you uninstall QT and reboot.
You may need to install updated graphics drivers, but uninstall the old ones first if possible via add/remove programs. Download to desktop the appropriate graphics driver from the manufacturer of your pc's site or from the manufacturer of your graphics card before uninstalling the old one.
We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true
thank you i will do that now. but about the graphics being messed up, i cant download from manufacturers site as time does not exist anymore. so how can i correct them? and also correcting this will it cost anything and what made it go wrong??!
i have tried to uninstall quicktime it says the un install was completed succesfully but it is still on the add/remove programmes list and i can can uninstall it again and again but it still stays there shall i click on 'uninstall everything'(which it says is not recommended) instead of just 'uninstall'
It's been so long since I uninstalled QT and removed all its' leftovers (there will probably be plenty of leftovers), that I don't remember perfectly, but I believe I told it to remove everything. I don't think it will hurt anything to remove all, but I am not positive.
If you have an image backup program (like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image), you could back up your entire disk to CDs or another hard drive beforehand and restore it if removing QT completely does cause problems (I think it won't cause problems).
It sounds like it's not going to succeed even if you choose to remove QT completely, but it might be worth a try. Otherwise, you may have to "uninstall" manually, which isn't for the faint of heart (really not that big a deal if you know what to look for and where to look).
Alternatively, uncheck Qttask on the startup tab of msconfig. It should cease the error at startup, but eventually you probably will need to uninstall QT completely and install an alternative player if you wish to view QT content.
This may be able to help you identify your graphics device so you can look for and find the proper drivers somewhere on the internet (you might want to post your info here for advice).
Did you run SIW (downloaded from my link above)? And if so, what does it say when you click on the plus beside devices (under the hardware heading) then again on the plus beside display adapter, then highlight the item you just exposed by clicking open the second plus sign?
