Comment:

i recently attempted to build my own computer and i have bought the following as hardware:

enermax case with 550 wattpower supply
liteon dvd-rom
120 gb western digital hdd
sony floppy drive
msi detla mother board
amd xp 2600 cpu
512 mb ddr ram

i have all of the hardware installed and at first i was getting a pxe error of some sort but i found out the problem and fixed that much, but i'm still getting errors:

#1 with no hdd, floppy, cd-rom attached i get the following message and i even check to see that it wasn't hunting a floppy, hdd, or cd-rom:

"Disk Boot Error, Insert Boot Disk And Press Enter"

#2 with hdd connected i get the following message:

"Disk read error has occured"
"Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

now i'm stuck, i tried making a bootdisk for 98 and xp and xp pro and none would load in floppy, what can i do now?

Are you familiar with the BIOS? 1st, make sure your HDD, floppy, & CD drive are properly attached...cables are flipped the right way & master/slave jumpers are set accordingly. Boot up & go straight into your BIOS...check the settings...make sure that your floppy, HDD, & CD drive are being identified properly; that your CPU & memory settings are correct; & that your display is set to either PCI or AGP, depending on what type videocard you have. Make sure your 1st boot device is set to floppy (if you wanna boot off the floppy drive - Win98) or CD-ROM (if ya wanna boot off a CD - WinXP). Make sure to save your settings before you exit the program, then make sure the proper disk is in the drive when you boot up again....
