On my new computer, I have Windows Me, and I recently received an update from Microsoft saying that that there are potential problems with some disk-defragmenting tools running in Windows Me. Has anybody had any problems and how can they be solved? There is supposed to be an error message and then you are unable to start Windows. (When I tried to get into their link to find out info, I couldn't.)

Well... I have Win ME (*sigh*) and it's an early version. Yet I don't have any problems with the defrag, so my guess is it's okay (that's both in the Eng and French versions).
Anyhow, if you DO have problems, simply visit the windows update webpage (you should have a link to it in your Start menu).

Cheers and Happy Holidays!

the email had to do with defragging when you have old utilities from McAffee(first aid, oil change, the uninstaller, etc. ) on your box. do a search on your computer for cmapieng.vxd. if you find it, rename it to something else. if you don't, you should be fine.

cmapieng.vxd trashes three major files when you defrag. winmm.dll, gdi32.dll, and user32.dll.
