Comment:

I have a 400 Mhz HP computer with a 6GIG hard drive and 64 MB RAM. I have recently upgraded from Windows 98 SE to ME and the disk defragmenter and scandisk run all the time but never finish. If I interrupt the tasks they start up again after the computer is idle for awhile. Also, in the log file I get a message saying the task has stopped because the computer is non-idle when the computer was really idle with only explorer and systray running in the background. Do you have a solution???

Thanks
GUY

Just type in MSCONFIG in the run command on the start buttong. Then click on advanced. Then uncheck the box "Run Scan After Bad Shutdowns."

Maybe they're scheduled to run in "Scheduled Tasks" and keep running because they never finish.
Check Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Scheduled tasks (and the StartUp folder as well). I don't know why they should be there, but if they are, get rid of them. Run them when YOU want, not on some schedule.

An obvious one I know, but you haven't said you've disabled your antivirus system, assuming you have one.
