I have a 400 Mhz HP computer with a 6GIG hard drive and 64 MB RAM. I have recently upgraded from Windows 98 SE to ME and the disk defragmenter and scandisk run all the time but never finish. If I interrupt the tasks they start up again after the computer is idle for awhile. Do you have a solution???

Ensure you have no other programs running whilst performing these tasks. You should only have explorer and systray in your ctrl-alt-del list. Both these functions can be run in safe mode too. To do this, depress F8 during boot and choose safe mode from the menu. This will load windows with minimal drivers, and should allow a complete scan disk/defrag.
There is however a good ME defrag utility at Sure Cool
