Disk Defragmenter wont work!

My Toshiba 4280, new in Feb 2000, is running Win ME, Office 2000 professional and only the Norton Antivirius 2000 portion of Symantec System Works 2000. The problem is that Disk Defragmenter has been runnning slower and now it wont run at all. Suggestions to date have been uninstall everything then reinstall.Any better ideas please?

Ctrl-alt-delete then close all programs accept explorer and systray.
Some programs that run in the background cause defrag to stop. Disable antivirus and other running programs.

Murphys Law works again! Looking in the MS Support Knowledge Base I noticed that Real Player Juke Box (which I had installed as a rider to Real Player) causes disk fragmenter hang ups in ME. Ah ha! Ditching Juke Box has eliminated the problem (for now anyway). Thanks for the tips.

I have the same problem allso id: Defrag004 i tried to fix i check everything in the Net until i read that Norton Utilities 2001 can fix and that what i did i download a try version of norton i also udated my norton antivirus to 2001 and thats it check everything we norton utilities to disk fix and that so problem defrag004 fix.
