When I do a "disk cleanup" the file named "Content.IE5 (and I have IE6 installed) apears, then inside that there are these listed; ODE35HUJ, OL2BSXEB,KLM7WP27,N58YE7GA (these files have sorted things including what looks like images that were on a webpage that someone visited (temp.files). Those files can be removed but darned if they are right back there when I reboot. Along with all those, there is a DAT file 1,152 kb and getting larger that will not and a message comes up saying it can not be removed.
About a month ago, I went from dialup to dsl and had problems with the installation and was told by microsoft to reformat (all went well, everything else so far works great), but this thing with the disk cleanup is puzzeling me, never happened before, it use to clean up to nothing and sure didn't appear back in there when I rebooted. Thanks in advance for all your help and advice. Beware, I am not a pc expert and if suggestions with registry or booting my pc in dos scares me. again, thanks so much.

The thing about disk cleanup is that it is only a temporary solution. Your internet cache is going to start filling right back up again when you use then net!!! A better solution is to limit the size of the internet temp files by right clicking IE on the desktop and then go to settings. I set mine at about 30MB as I dont see any reason to have it more! (but then i do only have a 6GIG hard drive) When they reach this size, the oldest is simply replaced with the newest and there's no need to mess with it.
Also, on the cleanup front, you can delete whatever is in the TEMP folder manually. there really is no need to use the diskclean function.

Also download AdAware 5.82(free),it will remove any spyware cookies/registry files:

To delete the index.dat files...(the index.dat files cannot be deleted while Windows is running)...delete the entire Temporary Internet Files directory tree or you're just going to have a bunch of disconnected files in there...
Boot to DOS... type smartdrv to load the DOS disk caching mechanism. Enter the Windows directory, and use the deltree command to delete the Temporary Internet Files folder, and all it's subfolders and files. Because it's DOS, the long filename alias,tempor~1 must be used.
smartdrv
cd \windows
deltree /y tempor~1
There's another way to clean this up though. First, clear your temporary internet files from within Explorer's Internet Options. Then, click the settings button and move the temporary internet files somewhere else.It will create the folder with fresh new indexes. Then, move it back again.

The Adawrae version you want is 5.83,you'd have probably figured that out when you got to the site that "S.M" gave you... :)

Thanks all for the quick replies.
Jizumonkay....As far as the size of temp files, mine has been set at 20mb. I do regularly clean up my temp folder..thanks for the advice.S.M.....Did go the add/remove and repaired ie6, nothing changed.
Haven't done the AdAware yet.
The Kid....There ya go, booting in DOS scares me, I don't know why. Maybe when my husband comes home he can help me with that. The other way to clean up you mentioned. Clicking the settings button and moving hte temp. files somwhere else...."Where to"...I have no clue what do type as where I would want them to go, and how do you move them back?? :)I'll wait to hear back for more until I try the rest of you're advices.
Thanks again, greatly appreciated.
