System:Intel Celeron 466, Windows Me, built-in video card. I want to install a new video card. How to perform it. I need step by step instruction.
Than you
Anita

First, do you have an AGP slot on your motherboard? IF you don't, you will have to upgrade to a PCI card of which there aren't too many out there.
TO disable your onboard video, you have to go into your bios. There will be an option there to disable it.

Most mainboards with an onboard video-card, don't have an AGP-slot. You can check if you have one by looking in the manual or opening your computer and see if there is a brown slot in it (same length as the white slots which are the pci-slots, AGP is located a bit more backwords)

You may not have to disable your onboard card in the BIOS. Some can be disabled in windows.
In any case you first need to set your system to VGA. you can do this in msconfig, general tab, advanced, put a check next to the VGA box. Restart. Next press the "Windows logo" and "break" keys and goto system properties, device manager, find your display adapter and disable it. Shut down. Install your new card (probably a PCI card as previously stated). Start the computer and let windows detect the new card. Install the latest drivers when prompted. Go back to msconfig and take the check mark out of the VGA box. Restart. Reset the resolution to what you want.
The card will probably have its own set of instructions. You should follow them.
