Use MSCONFIG, accessed from the RUN line, to control which programs run at startup. You need only System Tray, Scan Registry, Task Monitor, Load Power Profile as a general rule. You may also want your Anti Virus, Special mouse or keyboard drivers, and Winmodem files.

It depends on what you atcually disabled some applications are vital for the computer to start, but some can be disabled and then only that area of the computer will not work.
Example:

If OSD (on screen display) was diabled, then only the onscreen options like volume control would not be seen.

However if you were to disable RUNDLL or RUNDLL32 then parts of windows could not be accessed because RUNDLL is not running.

SYSTRAY is another one, if you were to disable this then only the start menu, quick launch and the clock would not work, but the rest of windows would be okay.

I wouldnt mess with anything i wasnt sure of.

P.S. just make sure you know what your messing about with, and always write down what you do, then if your computer does something it shouldnt you can just go back and undo what you did.

I have a free program called *start stop* you can find at google.com
This program will let you set what programs you want to start up and can be changed at any time.

hi all,
I have system tray disabled in my start up via msconfig. My Nortons,ICS, and my clock still are displayed on my right. Might want to check that one Mad Max, and see what happens.
