When i pressed {esc} i said windows could not update file %1 from %2.. %1 %2 so now i cant log in to windows at all. and safe mode doesnt even work. Plz help me.
--and im on a diff comp right now. thnkgod..

This is exactly the reaon Iam so reluctant to update DirectX from 8.0 to 8.1 ! I need to update my ATI TV WONDER , however the update requires DiretX 8.1 ! I have read alot of post like the one above. Even Microsoft's Download site warns you that updating to DirectX 8.1 can cause you to need a reinstall of you O/S ? Iam sorry I dont have a fix for you , I would be curious as to what kind of system you have . Good Luck, Nick

You didnt mention what video card you are using........boot into safe mode and see if you can get 16 colors. Some of the older video cards in fact most of the older cards are not able to use directx 8.x. Though they still should work but they will not work with some of the new directx 8 games coming out now.
Most people are not having any problems with directx any version. Try installing it again.

I am not 100 % sure but I've got this message in the past and it had to do with Win Me System Restore feauture.
Also , there is an utility called DirectX Erradicator (you can look up in Google) that helps you remove DirectX from your system. But first you need to at least make your computer bootable

This is interesting because I have removed System Restore from my PC, and I get this message from time to time. However, my system boots and once booted I can see no problems.
Would like to know what this means : -
windows could not update file %1 from %2.. %1 %2.

Q283069 - Error Message Windows Could Not Upgrade the File %1 from %2 %1 %2
Inquisitive minds wanted to know. So, here you go. :-)
