I have read of others' problems with dxdiag reporting messed up or missing registry keys used by directx. I had a similar problem on Windows ME machine,
You may want to try the fix I created. It is an inf file that will add registry keys. After you save the file on your computer, view it in a text editor for instructions. Don't install it (by right clicking on file icon) until you read the instructions first.

Good luck

Vishun,
Did you try reinstalling DX8 or DX9? Anyway, I extracted the relevant keys from my working Windows ME registry. Cut and paste the text following the dashes into a blank text document and save as a *.reg file. Right click on the file icon and "merge" it into your registry. Good luck.

I tried your fix and it greatly reduced the number of missing registry entries, but I still have some left. I am running Windows XP and the file you mentioned "c:\windows\inf\msdxwin.inf" is not on my system. Do you know what the following entries should be set to? Thanks for your help.

Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Address.Address.1\CLSID' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Address.Address.1' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Address.Address\CurVer' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Address.Address\CLSID' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Address.Address' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Lobby.LobbiedApplication.1\CLSID' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Lobby.LobbiedApplication.1' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Lobby.LobbiedApplication\CurVer' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Lobby.LobbiedApplication\CLSID' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Lobby.LobbiedApplication' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Lobby.LobbyClient.1\CLSID' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Lobby.LobbyClient.1' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Lobby.LobbyClient\CurVer' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Lobby.LobbyClient\CLSID' is missing.
Key 'HKCR\DirectPlay8Lobby.LobbyClient' is missing.
