Comment: Greetings. Until recently I got fedup with my Windows ME...It does not properly update things like it should; for example, my DirectX won't update from 8.1 to whatever...It won't initiate with a game that reguires it to be higher. And I tried reinstalling both of them several times. When I try reinstalling the DirectX, I do so as it says. Then when it asks me to restart. I click restart; it restarts like its suppose to. Then, upon restarting a black screen comes up, probably promted for the update and says something around these lines (forgive me, tired) -- "Could not update from 1% to 2%", then I click to go ahead, then it leaves the screen and a little box comes up saying "Updating System Settings"; but I don't think it actually updates everything. This happens with regular Windows updates I try to do, and now DirectX, too. Its not a real big problem for me, everything seems to work fine regardless if its fully updated or not. I just wanna play my game. I miss it. :( So, if anyone can help me out here. That would be more than welcome! Thanks. p.s Oh! When I try going into DirectDraw...It says that is outdated too. :S

Reply: (edit)Make sure you have System Restore enabled, and *StateMgr running in the startup list. Windows Update will not run correctly if these are not enabled.
