I recently was downloading DirectX 8.1 from the Windows Update site .Iam on a dialup modem and the download took aprx 1/2 hour. It completed the download , however during the start on installing it my connection was dropped ? However after logging off the net and rebooting my system , it gave me the updating system during boot , and then when I went to run and typed dxdiag , the directx diagnostic utility opened and listed it as directx 8.1 ? It seems since the download of the files was complete, that upon reboot it completed the installation .However when I return to the Windows Update site and scan for updates , it list the directx download as installation in progress? Is this just a glitch in the Windows Update site ? Should I assume that the installation of DirectX 8.1 is complete ? Thanks to All ,Nick

Since your system showed "update in progress" after reboot, and dxdiag shows dx 8.1...I'm pretty sure the update was a success.
To see if you can get windows update from showing this as download in progress try looking at the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319585

Good Luck!
