Hey all,
I am getting an error message when running dxdiag. I recently installed DX9, and it would seem that this is what is causing this to happen. I had DX8.1 until this point. I noticed that I got the same error message a few months ago (Ihad DXX9 installed at that time as well), prior to a full HD reformat, but I had not made the connection. Now, I am sure that while DX9 may not be the problem, it seems that some settings or some other ...something is causing this as a result of the DX upgrade.
It is, or something to the effect of, "DxDiag has detected that there may have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass Direct3D this time?" ...with a yes or no option.
-The thing is, I had opened DxDiag with 8.1 installed with NO problems, so...I don't understand why it is saying that "...problem...the LAST time this prog was used". ...??? This error was the first error.
When I click "No" ...as in not wanting to bypass Direct3D, I get a yellow exclamation error saying DxDiag has caused an error in or something. Pressing yes loads dxdiag, and I am able to access and test and all that, but I run into problems testing D3D, and it says that it isn't working or something like that...
Uh, I don't know, this is way beyond me. I am hoping someone will help, as it would be greatly appreciated.Thank you in advance...
Matt.

It seems that Direct-X 9 should not be used unless the video card was designed to support it.The problem is that you have to reinstall Windows and Dirext-X 8.1 to get rid of it.Microsoft has a warning before you download it that there is no uninstall program if you want to revert back to Direct-X 8.1.Good luck.

Thanks Petit.
Actually, I have a Radeon 9700pro installed. It fully supports Dx9. Or, at least it is supposed to. Well, at least I now know how to revert back to Dx8.1.
Thanks, Matt.

I just installed DirectX 9.0 and I recieved a error message simular to yours except mine was referring to my sound driver ? However when I answered no about using the internet to check this out , and then proceeded with doing all the test in DirectX , everything passed all test including the sound .Also I thought I read at the Windows Update site that with Windows Me and Windows XP, you can create a restore point B/4 installing the update and then revert back to the previous version using sysyem restore ?
