Hi all,Here's my problem. I just did a clean install of WinME and now for my dial-up connection, the "Save password" option is greyed out. To try fixing it, I deleted all of the PWL files in C:\Windows and rebooted, but a logon as user screen never showed up. Now, there are no PWL files in C:\Windows (even after rebooting). Next, I checked my Network control panel and Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial-Up Adapter, and TCP/IP are all installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled them all to see if it would fix it, but it didn't. I've even tried different things in the Passwords and Users control panel options, but nothing worked.
In the Start menu when I boot up, it just says "Log Off..." If I select this and push Yes to "Are you sure?", the box does come up where I can put in a user name and password. After doing this, in the Start menu, it changes from "Log Off..." to "Log Off Steve..." and now I can save my password for Dial-up Networking, but if I reboot the computer, it goes back to the plain "Log Off..." and again I can't save the password. Every time I boot up or restart, have to manually switch to Steve. I've even tried TweakUI's Logon tab to automatically boot up as Steve, but it's always "Log Off...".
Does anyone know how I can make it so I have one user at start up and that user can save the Dial-up Networking password? Thanks.
Steve

First try fixing the log off>>log on situation.
Go to Network properties and make sure Client for Microsoft Netoworks is your Primary network logon(middle dropdown menu).
If it wasn't, change it and reboot when prompted.
If you still did not get a chance to log on.
Go to start>>run>>regedit.
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Network\Real Mode Net
Open that folder.
On the right, if you see a value for AutoLogOn, delete it(AutoLogOn).Now browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Network
If you see a value on the right called Disable Password Caching... delete it also.Close the Registry editor and reboot.
You should now have a network password log on box.Don't enter a password and click ok.
Go back to network properties in the control panel and set the primary network log on to Windows logon(dropdown menu again).
Click ok and reboot when prompted. This time you will get a Windows logon box, not a network logon box.
Make sure something is in the user name box and nothing is in the password box and click ok.Now bring up your connectiod. You should be able to save your dial up password and not have to log on to get to the desktop.
Resources and other ideas:
Cannot get on Bootup the Logon Window
No Windows or Network Logon Dialog Box at Startup
Dial-Up Networking Password Is Not Saved

Thanks newgrl,
It was the AutoLogon registry key that was doing it. That was something I looked at before, but I guess I must have just forgot to delete it. Thanks again.
Steve
