Lazy way round it is probably to download Tweak UI and use the "repair icon" option in it, see how you go with that.

However, as ALWAYS, you must follow the instructions carefully. So here's some pretty fool proof steps for installing Tweak UI

Read both the Tweak UI page and the install guide.

Having said that, I think the Tweak UI repair icon option is for desktop icons only ? Not used it in a long time.

You seem to have a problem with all the icons throughout you puter.

If the Tweak UI option does nothing, download and run some virus scans - TrendMicro - Housecall and Panda Active Scan. Then download and run fully updated versions of Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware 6.

And post back with anything you find and anything further you notice.

Delete shelliconcache (do a search for files and folders) reboot and see if it helps.

You can also delete shelliconcache by booting to safe mode and back to normal mode and the file will be rebuilt.

You can also do it by simply changing your display properties under the settings tab, then changing them back.
