I know how to create a shortcut to the desktop. For some reason when I do this for a web page - it doesn't go to the page it tries to download a url file instead of opening the page. Did I explain myself enough? It's goofy.

Jim, make sure the shortcut has the exact URL in it for the target. It's easier to do this when you use the Wizard for creating a desktop shortcut. It will automatically open up in your default web browser.

Don't know what you mean that it's trying to download a url file.

Like I said, I know how to do it - but it doesn't work. For example, from the MSN home page, when I drag the icon from the address bar to the desktop, and I click on it, this is what it says.It says "You are downloading the file: Welcome to MSN.com.url from C:WINDOWS\Desktop Would you like to open the file or save it to your computer?" If I choose Open it does the same thing again. If I choose Save, all it does is save another shortcut that doesn't work. The properties of the shortcut says it's a url file, it should be a html file i think.

I just figured it out. In folder options/ file type under url, it wasn't set as an intrnet shortcut file. I restored the default setting and they work now.
