Desktop Shortcuts Gone Awry

Hi. I have a Windows ME OS. I recently found 5 worms on my drive and was instructed to purge them by deleting my system restore archives (since that is where the worms were living). However, a minor desktop problem has arisen. All my desktop shortcuts have turned into the Microsoft Word icon. The programs still work but the shortcut problem is annoying. I've tried deleting the desktop icons and creating new ones, but they automatically turn into the Word shortcuts again. I've gone into the desktop folder and tried to resave the icon but no luck. I've also tried the desktop properties with no success. ANy suggestions? I would love to have someone save my sanity. You would have my eternal gratitude! Thanks!!

A couple of possible solutions- If you have tweakui installed go to the repair tab and select rebuild icons. If that dosent work try deleting ShellIconCache from c:\windows. windows will create a new copy on boot up.
