desktop icons not working

all my computer icon on my desktop are white like a default icon and if you double click it won't open, to open the program you have to right click it go in to properties then find target to use the program can you help me please ?

pepito12, my gut is telling me that white icons indicate an unfinished something or other likely caused by a corrupted file. That may/may not be the deal. As to how to fix?? If it were me, I'd try making a new shortcut icon (with crossed fingers) and see if that solves it??? If that seems to do the job, you may need to do all your icons and delete the old ones??? HTH. Ed in Texas i tried doing what you said but the shortcut icon came out the same as the other ones not working,do you have any more suggestions please ?????

Try deleting C:\Windows\ShellIconCache
Windows will recreate it when you reboot.
