On certain web sites when I "X" out and go to the desktop, the desktop freezes, if I click on any icon to go do something else, all I get is the hour glass. After 2 minutes or so, maybe 3, everything goes back to normal.
It's like IE 6 is writing to some kind of log, don't really know. If it happened on all websites I visit, I would be more concerned, but it only happens on some. Anyone have any clues what the problem is?

Oh, by the way, I have installed EnditAll and if run it before I "X" out of the website I am on, everything is OK, the desktop does not freeze.
But I shouldn't have to use EndItAll after closing down IE 6. Why on some websites IE 6 or whatever keeps running and freezes the desktop?

You could have a small bug hooked in there somewhere. Have you checked using HijackThis?
It's always worth having a look, put a HJT log file down below if you want, see if there's anything there.

HiJackThis came back clean and so did my virus scan. No bugs. At first I thought it had something to do with Java or Flashplayer, but my test came back negative, it is neither one of these.
After clicking out of IE6, some websites prevent IE6 from closing completely and it hangs for a few minutes before completing closing. Very, very annoying...

I even did a complete re-install of ME and IE6 SP1.
I think it is an inherent problem with IE6 SP1. I have known that this problem is quite common.I have read where reverting back to IE 5.5 fixed the problem, but IE 5.5 has security issues.
I would rather stay with IE 6 SP1, but without the desktop freeze up.
The only solution I have found besides using EndItAll, is not closing out IE, if I want to go to the desktop, click on desktop icon on the quick launch bar at the bottom of the screen, the desk top appears and everything works normally. Or, instead of closing IE to go to another site, minimize the existing site and the desktop appears then click on the site I want to go to from my desktop.
Shouldn't have to do that though.
IE 6 does not close completely when you "X" it out when visiting some web sites. Something you have to live with.

It's actually more of an (9x)ME / IE issue rather than solely an IE6 problem. That aumha article pretty much nails the issues....and they are numerous. lol.
Agreed you need to stay fully up to date with patches etc, and IE6 SP1 is really a poor bare minimum these days. It'd be better if you could use another browser that isn't so heavily embedded in Windows tbh.
..but that's a PITA if you like what you're used to.

Yup, it what you get used to. I don't even want think about getting a new system with Vista loaded, what a nightmare that would be, lol...
Thanks for your input Viking much appreciated...

You know you're heading there, you know you want to...don't fight it Luke. :p

The "close" option is listed in the dropdown menu under "file" not "view" in IE6 SP1...I have to try it...thanks
