Subject: deletion of folder OS: Windows MECPU/Ram: Pentium 4 / 128 MB SDRAM |
Comment: just the other day i uninstalled a program using the program's own uninstaller. the program's entry was removed from the Add/Remove Programs list of the control panel, but the program's folder remained in the C:\PROGRAM FILES folder. when i tried to delete the folder in C:\PROGRAM FILES, i got the message that deleting, renaming or moving the folder could stop some programs from running. why do i get the above-mentioned message whenever i try to delete the program's folder? now that the software has been uninstalled successfully from my computer, is it safe to delete its folder from C:\PROGRAM FILES? should i ignore the message and go ahead with deleting the folder?

Reply: (edit)Does the folder contains some files (probably some dll's or exe's). The DLL's might not be visible because of folder settings (go to Tools - folder options - view and show all files). There might be some DLL's that might be used by other programs. In your case you can go ahead and delete the directory if you feel that these are related to the uninstalled software only. ---So it is already friday and one more week is over------

Reply: (edit)If you are certain the name of this sub-folder is that of the program you uninstalled then you can safely delete it. DLL's for other programs will not be put in a folder that already carries the name of a specific program. DerekW
