i'm glad i found this, and it's a recent post - sometimes info is hard to get, or interpret even, and i'm pretty computer savvy...

anyway, the question is, where do i get the restore updates ?

i don't want to do all the windows updates, i'm on dialup - tho i will get to it when i have a chance, so are they marked seperately ?

i was wondering about turning off pchealth and restore but having statmgr still running - (oops) as i sit here typing, it seems to churning away copying every damn thing i do to a restore file minute by minute

also, i have a suggestion for those of you who like to leave restore on - i have actually had success with it myself, but i still think a good install manager is better - a good one will even watch drivers and system settings -

anyway, my suggestion is this - i think some viruses (trojans, actually, i guess) are taking advantage of restore for a hiding place

tanx

What "restore updates" are you talking about?

velvetmm,

First, if you are going to quote something/someone. Put quotation marks("..") around it. Second, tell what you are quoting. By that, give a link, thanks.

"anyway, the question is, where do i get the restore updates ?"

MSKB 290700

It's also a separate update, at the update site. Yes, each update is separate.

See, isn't that easier. Well, makes it easier to comprehend. What info/need you have/need. << That, might not be easy to comprehend though ;-)

Good Luck,

thank you, crazy one - so what about statemgr ? i had neglected to uncheck it in selective startup - does it cause restore to run anyway even if it's disabled in mycomputer-performance-filesystem-troubleshooting ?

and if it's not asking too much, what is stmgr ?

also, (and if it's not way asking too much,) what/(how?) generally does compaq's pchealth do (interaction w/restore?)

i had it on good authority to turn all compaq's proprietary startup junk off, and i did notice a far improvement - tho i was not aware of statemgr being part of restore, at the point when i decided to do away with the 17mgs of infected *.cpy, since the machine was now running very well and trojan/spy/virus-free, contrary to it's state when my girlfriend "inherited" it

and thanx again, btw

to jennifer: it seems, apparently, win me has an update for the restore module that is quite important, maybe? or, at least, on machines that aren't behaving well ?

this machine was such a mess of start programs and gook that i haven't even gotten there (wupd) yet, but i will if restore is compromised

(in fact, i doubt the site would've LET me get an update)

what say ye?

and to my good friend stuart - i presume i am on the same planet as you, and to my never-ending delight, i assure you ;)
