I recently came across an article covering regular maintenance of computers that recommended deleting .TMP,~*.*, *.CHK, and MSCREATE.DIR files. When I did my search for ~*.* it showed many, many files which looked pretty serious to me so I was reluctant to delete them. Does anyone know why these files would need to be deleted and if it's safe to do so. Many seemed to indicate they were part of Windows. I deleted all my .TMP files, found nothing in the *.CHK or MSCREATE.Dir files but need to know about the ~*.*. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi. Temp files are usually used during a software installation or while a program is running. It's usually safe to delete and programs will recreate those files again when needed.
