The most effective and quick way?

Restart to Safe mode and run from there.

Not everyone has to run defrag in safe mode. You have some (other) thing(s) running in the background like anti-virus. Turn them off.

Power Defrag 2.10 is a free program that allows the Windows defragger to run by itself with nothing else in the background:

Thanks, I ran my defrag as regular maintenance last night and while it was checking for errors also, at 4% thought it would never get past same, thought I might start getting disk errors and about 4 months ago when I ran same, scandisk told me to run scandisk first. I did and it corrected the problem.

Is this an indication, I am about to start getting errors on the drive!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!!!!!!!
