I can't run defrag or my scandisk? When I open a file my CPU states not enough free memory? It also sometimes states bad disk?
Can anyone help?,
Brad

I have had the same problem .I now do
scandisk & defrag in safe mode using an F8
startup ,Hope this helps

Safemode doesn't seem to change a thing for me. The Scandisk just crashes during a run and Defrag won't even start? :-(
Thanks for your reply,
Brad

You will be able to get much better advice if you read the posting instructions and give your full system specifications and program list, then a description of what you were doing when the trouble first occurred. Also, was your ME installation a clean instal, OEM or an upgrade. Did you download anything from the web or install a new program recently? Have you tried system restore? Had you up to date anti-virus protection? Were you regularly using defrag and scandisk? Is your hard disk full (there should be at least 50Mb to spare for Windows to run at all and preferably much more)? If you don’t know how to provide your system specifications, it means basically what kind of processor you have, such as Intel Pentium III 800 Mhz, what kind of graphics card (video adapter) such as Creative Geforce 3 Titanium 500, what kind of sound card, such as Creative Soundblaster PCI 128, what size of hard disk. Etc. You can find out this information by running Start, programs, accessories, system tools, system information, or by right clicking on My Computer, going to properties, device manager and having a look at the expanded + signs for details. For each device, select the properties button at the bottom of the box to get more detail. You will also learn a lot about how to navigate your system. Hope this helps us to help you. :)

TRy using a decent defrag.
I use VoptMe, and it has never failed me yet (Microsoft defrag is pretty useles!!)

Brad,
You need to close most of the programs running in the backgrown and the best way to do this is to get *enditall 2* at google. Enditall 2 will close only the programs that are not needed and protect the ones that are needed. It will even let you close your screen saver and power management. First I close the programs in the system tray, the icons by the clock, then I use enditall 2,then do a disk clean, then scan disk and then defrag. On a 34 gb drive it only takes 15 or 20 min. if you do this about every 2 or 3 days.
I also have Norton but I don't use it, it has given me more problems than it has fixed.
I use AVG antivirus You can do a google search for this too. Both AVG and enditall 2
are freeware.
