Hello all, it's me again, I am having serious trouble with defraging this machine, it has been on 1 percent for over two hours, I also tried a scandisk and it says that it cannot run unless I close all programs, the problem is, there is nothing else open? what should I do? Thanks!

Safemode.... Start the PC and keep tapping the F8 key. You will be given four options of how you want to start the machine. Use the arrow keys to select safe mode and press enter. Re-boot to get out of safe mode after you have finished.
In safe mode only the necessary drivers are loaded so the monitor screen looks a bit crap. Don't try to surf the net in this mode as various programs will not be loaded (Anti-virus for one).

Rene Romano, dunno just what the answer your dilemma is, but just maybe there is still something running in the background. Here is the addy of a proggie called "End It All" which they claim turns off everthing you don't have to have. Give it a try, then try again in safe mode??? HTH. Ed in Texas.

Rene- Try running scandisk from DOS. Restart your machine and press F8 as shown in earlier message to bring up the options for starting. Choose "Command Prompt" instead of safe mode. When the C:\ prompt appears type scandisk/surface and then press enter. When scandisk is finished, type WIN and press enter, Windows will load. This method bypasses windows programs and scandisk should run. If not, you may have a low level virus scan going on, or a bios virus scan. Do not know if this will also work with defrag. Try it and see. DOS command is probably "defrag"
